It is fair to say things got a little MESSIE last night.

Despite the wettest December for Gisborne since records began in 1937, with a month’s rain on Boxing Day followed by high winds, the Rhythm and Vines festival site and production teams have turned around a headline performance to have the festival prepped and ready to welcome  17,000 happy campers onto Waiohika Estate.

With campers checked in and ready to party, two of the festival mainstages were ignited into life with up-and-coming producers and DJ’s given the keys to big stage production, launching the Waiohika Warmup. Gisborne local and 2024 breakout star MESSIE closed out the night before campers settled in for their first night sleep.

The festival now prepares for day one of the festival, featuring headline performances from ICE SPICE, SAMMY VIRJI, PEKING DUK, SHY FX and more.

Key highlights include:

  • 17,000 campers checked-in for the final 4 days of 2024.
  • Waihirere Iwi welcomed R&V festival staff onto site with a moving powhiri.
  • Red Bull held the first ever festival gym workout at the Red Bull Shred Shed.
  • 1500 Bookatent tents set up, continuing the battle against single use tents coming into the festival
  • 2024 breakout star and Gisborne local MESSIE closed out the Waiohika Warmup
  • Messie and Friends performed on the Cellar Stage, which was made from recycled Himalayan Cedar, cleaned up from last year’s devastating cyclone.
  • R&V continues to raise funds for the Gisborne Mayoral Flood Relief, raising over $30k since the floods happened in 2023.

Not too late to come join the party with final 3 day and single day passes available. Limited camping spaces still available in selected campgrounds.
