Watch this standout moment from R&V 2010, back when we first launched Behind the Vines as our award winning* news show covering all things Rhythm and Vines. (*Note, we haven't won any awards for our journalism because we have never entered in anything, though if we did, we think we would).
Anyway, as we dive into the archives, we found this candid interview with Netsky back in 2010. At just 21 years old, Netsky was already making waves in the electronic music scene, and this interview offers a fascinating glimpse into his early aspirations and inspirations, but mostly his youthful mop of hair.
What makes Netsky's connection to Rhythm and Vines even more remarkable is his continued presence over the years. Having graced our stage seven times since that initial interview, he's become a beloved figure of the festival, including his unforgettable surprise appearance during the challenging times of the COVID lockdowns in 2020.
Going back to 2010, it's crazy to think Netsky was doing the sunrise set on one of the smaller stages. It's enlightening to see where he is now (headlining Tomorrowland etc etc), hopefully this inspires young DJ's and producers in NZ that you have to start somewhere. And as for our raving reporter Dan Maas in the video, he now owns a McDonald's in Blenheim, so goes to show, R&V is a true breeding ground for talent.
