RHYTHM & VINES RELEASES DAILY LINE-UP, BRAND NEW ONSITE ACCOMMODATION AND CLUB STOLEN VIP

As the year rolls on and summer fast approaches, Rhythm & Vines is excited to release the festival’s daily line-up PLUS the lowdown on accommodation at the brand new Tepee Life Village and everything you need to know about Club Stolen VIP.

Boasting some of the biggest names yet, the much-anticipated Rhythm & Vines daily line-up is out now; and with so many massive acts, festival-goers won’t want to miss a second. Furthermore, single day tickets are now available so R&V fans can customise their festival experience.

Off the back of a year-long world tour, D&B heavyweights Pendulum will kick off the festival, headlining December 29th along with Grandmaster Flash, Yuksek and Architecture in Helsinki. December 30th will see Calvin Harris, Erick Morillo and Cut Copy take to the stage, as well as NZ favourites Homebrew, Six60 and Scratch 22. And to see out 2011, Rhythm & Vines welcomes a selection of the hottest names in music, with Netsky, Tiga, Skream and Benga, and UK chart-topper Example taking you through to 2012.

For those keen to enjoy the onsite location and chilled-out daytime fun, Rhythm & Vines has introduced a brand new onsite accommodation offering. The Tepee Life Village is a unique, premium accommodation experience best described as a mobile hotel eco-village and is exclusive to R&V 2011. It offers roomy tepees that are pre-assembled and come complete with most camping necessities including mattresses, a table, a lantern and a floor.  The Tepee Life Village will be a home away from home during the festival featuring a large communal area complete with daybeds, making it the perfect spot to relax in between acts. No pitching of tents required; guests just need to turn up and settle in!

In other exciting news, Rhythm & Vines has taken its VIP experience up a notch this year, welcoming Stolen Rum’s ‘Club Stolen’ – THE hottest ticket this summer. Giving festival goers everything they need in one place, Club Stolen is the very best place to get an amazing, uninterrupted view of the main stage. There won’t be an RTD in sight thanks to Stolen Rum’s resident Rum Runners mixing cocktails to perfection, plus Club Stolen is the perfect place for VIP guests to chill, with food at their fingertips, minimal queuing and the best of the festival on full view. There will also be a live feed to the other stages as well as table service and a coat check. Club Stolen packages and VIP upgrades are available now.

The VIP experience also extends beyond the festival this year with platinum accommodation packages that include access to the exclusive Concrete Playground Pool Party at the Quality Hotel
Emerald Gisborne.

“We’re really excited to be able to offer so many new things at Rhythm and Vines. Single day tickets are something people have been asking for, so we’re happy to be able to do this again this year.” says R&V founder and program director Hamish Pinkham.

“Plus the Tepee Village means you can camp onsite without the hassles that come with camping and as for Club Stolen, there’s no place you’d rather be at R&V!”

And finally, Rhythm & Vines now offers a Layby option through 1-night making it a lot easier to lock in New Year’s Eve and still have cash for Christmas presents.

Big thanks to Rhythm and Vines’ 2011 broadcast partners U and ZM, and proud supporters MTV.

KATY B PULLS OUT OF R&V SOUNDCHECK, NERO TO REPLACE KATY ON BILL

It is with regret that Rhythm and Vines and Ambient Events announce that Katy B has had to pull out of tonight’s R&V Soundcheck show due to personal reasons.

Withdrawing from the remainder of the Australian Parklife 2011 Tour and the one-off New Zealand show at Auckland’s Vector Arena, Katy B has flown back to London immediately.

A statement from Katy’s management says: “Katy is extremely sad to pull out of R&V Soundcheck and wishes Diplo, Magnetic Man, Digitalism and Ruby Frost the very best for the show she will be missing in Auckland tonight.

“She also apologises wholeheartedly to her New Zealand fans and promises she will be back very soon.”

In better news for those attending R&V Soundcheck, organisers are pleased to announce Katy’s replacement in the line-up – UK dubsteppers Nero.

The ultimate electro/rock/drum n’ bass megaband, Nero is the definition of dubstep with grinding beats and wobbly, super-distorted sounds bludgeoning eardrums a go-go, yo!

With their debut album ‘Me & You’ royally crowned ‘Hottest Record in the World’ by BBC Radio 1’s Zane Lowe, Nero assaulted the Coachella masses earlier this year with their bass canons and they sucked it up, dropped to their knees and begged for more.

Total Beatport Award re-offenders, Nero won Best Dubstep Track for ‘Act Like You Know’ in 2009 and in 2010 they walked away as the Best Dubstep Act – yes the Best. It’s official.

Says R&V organiser Hamish Pinkham: “We apologise to all those looking forward to seeing Katy B perform, just as we were.

“We hope people will enjoy Nero just as much. We’ve had a lot of requests from fans to bring Nero to New Zealand, just as with Katy, and it’s great to get an act of their calibre at such short notice. They should put on a great show.”

R&V ANNOUNCES SISTER FESTIVAL RHYTHM AND ALPS AT TERRACE DOWNS, CANTERBURY, DECEMBER 28-29

Featuring Grandmaster Flash, Skream and Benga, Flying Lotus, Foreign Beggars, LTJ Bukem, Netsky, Dub FX, Brookes Brothers, Six60, 1814, Homebrew and more!

Taking its award-winning festival down south, Rhythm and Vines is holding a new sister festival in Canterbury this December!

The new festival Rhythm and Alps will be held over two days, December 28 and 29, at the picturesque Terrace Downs resort at the base of Mt Hutt just outside of Christchurch.

Big on bass culture and electronica and featuring 34 renowned international and local acts, the festival’s line-up includes some of the stars of the R&V mothership including US hip hop and turntable legend Grandmaster Flash, Belgian drum and bass star Netsky, and Kiwi bands of the moment Six60 and Homebrew.

Most of the 34 acts are exclusive to the South Island festival however including US experimental multi-genre producer Flying Lotus and UK drum and bass DJs/producers LTJ Bukem and Brookes Brothers.

A heavily weighted local line-up includes South Island favourites Dub Fx, 1814, Antix, Stinky Jim, A Hori Buzz, country band The Eastern, Dubwise, Soulware, Soulsystem, Cyril Orsen and Soul Trader, while Wellington’s Fried Chicken Soundsytem and Kev Fresh also get a look-in.

Program Director Hamish Pinkham says organisers are excited to bring a taste of R&V to Canterbury, while at the same time ensuring that Rhythm and Alps has its own unique flavour.

“Surrounded by the beautiful vista of the Southern Alps, Terrace Downs is the South Island equivalent of our Gisborne home and the ideal location for a music festival.

“Rhythm and Alps will very much have its own South Island flavour and that’s reflected in a line-up heavy on bass and dance culture with local favourites Dub FX, 1814, Antix and Stinky Jim.”

Pinkham says the team would love for Rhythm and Alps to give R&V a run for its money.

“At the moment though we’re just focused on putting on a great show. We hope locals will get on board and support it.”

With two-day passes at $159 and one-day passes from $89, several thousand festival-goers are expected, with most likely to come from the South Island.

Various accommodation options are available including free onsite camping as well as hotels and holiday homes in the surrounding area. VIP packages will also be on offer.

Pinkham says after nine years, the Gisborne-based Rhythm and Vines has built a loyal fan base with last year’s festival selling-out with a record 25,000 people. Last year also saw the festival pick up best Festival/Event award at the annual Tourism Industry Awards.

With most festival-goers coming from the North Island and a definite gap in the market in the South Island, the team saw an opportunity to bring R&V artists down south while in New Zealand.

He says both he and fellow director Alex Turnbull from Bench Music have strong southern ties and a history of sell out shows and with “test events” held in Dunedin and Queenstown, so it was a natural progression to look at the South Island.

“After such a hard year, we’re bringing a kick-ass international and local line-up and world-class event right to Canterbury’s doorstep. It’s the definitive outdoor South Island event of 2011.”

Tickets are on sale now through 1-Night www.1-night.co.nz. A limited allotment of early bird 2-day passes are on sale now for $129. A GA 2-day pass is $159, with one day passes at $89 for day 1 and $119 for day 2.
