News

In what was a shock for those yet to secure their R&V tickets, Rhythm and Vines announced on Monday that 3-day passes had sold out, as they reached planned capacity.Today, the festival is pleased to announce it will do a bonus release of 3,000 more tickets.  With planning on schedule and the support of the local authorities, Rhythm and Vines organisers were able to add infrastructure and buses to cater for the additional capacity. And with long term forecasts predicting a stellar summer, this comes as excellent news as Gisborne gets ready to welcome thousands of festival-goers.

“It’s amazing to see people locking in Rhythm and Vines early this year, and we’re really happy we were able to increase capacity to fit in all the last-minute buyers too,” says Program Director, Hamish Pinkham.

“But based on recent sales and the level on demand, we don’t expect the new allocation to last much beyond Christmas, so get in fast!”

Tickets available NOW from 1-night.co.nz/rhythmandvines

Rhythm and Vines enthusiasts hoping to get the full three-day experience are out of luck as the festival has sold out at capacity of GA 3 day passes.

However, organisers have made a limited number of 3-day passes available at iSite in Gisborne. one-day, VIP and 3 Day package tickets are still available online.

An R&V spokesman said the festival is investigating increasing capacity to enable further sales of the 3 day GA passes, with a decision expected sometime on Wednesday the 21st of December.

The festival, dubbed New Zealand’s premiere summer event, gets underway next week on Thursday.

With only 15 sleeps to go, Rhythm and Vines is shaping up to be one of the biggest yet with further additions to an already epic line-up including the winners of the Sonic Bids competition and new billings for the Red Bull Music Academy Stage.

Rhythm & Vines is the first promoter in New Zealand to use Sonic Bids to find talent and this year, organisers have chosen six artists to perform at the infamous Summer festival. Sonic Bids is a website created to connect any band from any genre with music promoters around the world. And with over 220,000 bands, 19,000 promoters from more than 100 countries, and booking more than 60,000 gigs a year; it’s a veritable hub of up-and-coming musicians. Spanning indie, soul, funk, and new-folk; this year’s selection includes Hikoikoi, Jesse Sheehan, Nat Rose, Danny Coddling, Janine And The Mixtape, Bears With Guns, and Super Villians.

“We’re really excited to be working with Sonic Bids again to tap into new talent in New Zealand and Australia,” says Programme Director, Hamish Pinkham.

“One of our visions for Rhythm and Vines was to provide a platform for up-and-coming talent to showcase their music, and it’s fantastic that this continues today.”

Rhythm and Vines has also added to the billing for the Red Bull Music Academy stage– the home of cutting edge talent, as curated by Nick D. Joining the likes of Clap Clap Riot, Electric Wire Hustle, Scratch 22 and The Ruby Suns will be UK house DJ, Doc Daneeka and grimy techno-soul aficionado, Nick Hook.

Fresh off the back of a stint at the Red Bull Music Academy this year, Daneeka promises to deliver some of the best house music around right now, favouring syncopated beats and polyrhythms over linear. Then taking it in to the wee hours, Hook will follow Doc’s set with his unique strain of acid-fried bassline and vintage drum machines.

DJ ZINC

It is with regret that Rhythm & Vines announce that DJ Zinc will no longer be joining the 2011 line-up, due to a scheduling conflict.

Club Stolen and onsite camping update

Onsite camping is now SOLD OUT; and VIP tickets are limited – don’t miss out on your ticket to the best view in the house plus access to Stolen Rum’s resident Rum Runners mixing cocktails to perfection.

The much-anticipated Rhythm & Vines daily timetable will be released on Thursday 15 December at www.rhythmandvines.co.nz and www.facebook.com/rhythm.vines

Big thanks to Rhythm and Vines’ 2011 broadcast partners U and ZM, and proud supporters MTV.

The countdown to Rhythm and Vines 2011 is on and now there’s even more reason to head to Gisborne with the festival announcing its third and final additions to an already epic line-up.

Third line-up released

With some of the biggest names in music locked in including Example, Cut Copy and Grandmaster Flash, Rhythm and Vines is stoked to announce that Young Man, Die! Die! Die!, Beardyman,  the Jordan Luck Band and more, will be joining this year’s festival.

Leading the charge and headlining New Year’s Eve alongside Skream and Benga is one of the UK’s most exciting and dynamic vocal talents, Youngman. Known for his fiery vocals across the drum’n’bass, R&B and bassline scenes, Youngman is Benga’s number one MC with their collaboration single ‘Ho/One & Only’ becoming an instant smash across the UK underground this year.

Mixing things up on the 31st, UK beat-box champion Beardyman will take to the stage to showcase his live music production skills. Famous for his comedic and jaw-dropping virals, Beardyman’s unique beat-boxing and sound creation show is a must-see.

This year’s festival sees an exciting development with the addition of the brand new Red Bull Music Academy stage. Curated by music aficionado, Nick Dwyer and headlined by UK DJ Benji B, the stage will bring festival-goers the very best of pioneering artists, many of whom are former participants of the Red Bull Music Academy. Head to this stage to see the likes of Clap Clap Riot, Frank Booker, Die! Die! Die!, Electric Wire Hustle, Recloose, Scratch 22, She’s So Rad and The Ruby Suns – a line-up so good punters might not make it to the other stages!

And not ready to stop there, Rhythm and Vines 2011 will also welcome one of New Zealand’s all-time favourite acts, the Jordan Luck Band as well as other local artists including Northland funk group 1814 and irreverent, party DJ’s People of Paris.

Rhythm & Vines Protégé announced

There’s plenty more going on outside the line-up with Rhythm & Vines this week announcing the winner of the Protégé competition. The hunt for the 2011 Rhythm and Vines Protégé began back in September with the team looking for the ultimate R&V Ambassador – someone with a love for the festival and enthusiasm to burn, plus a near obsession with music PLUS have on-camera skills – not much to ask right?! And after 7,500 public votes cast and almost 11,000 YouTube views, Rhythm and Vines are stoked to announce they’ve found their man, 20-year-old Bachelor of Communications student, Conor Beggs.

As part of his prize, Conor’s biggest responsibility will be representing the R&V brand at Rhythm and Vines and Rhythm and Alps in Canterbury, as well as festivals in Australia and Europe 2012. Plus he’s also won himself a weekly slot on TVNZ U’s, U Live and will be interviewing some of the world’s biggest names in music at this year’s festival.

Revolutionary Payment system introduced

In a New Zealand-first, Rhythm and Vines 2011 also sees the introduction of a revolutionary payment system from Hamilton-based company, AWOP. Previous years have seen ‘cash-free’ payment however this brand new technology introduces a RFID wristband that will not only get punters INTO the festival (no more printing out tickets) but can also be loaded up with cash to buy food, drink and more at the swipe of their wrists – so there’s no chance festival-goers will lose their wallet amongst the vines.

Club Stolen and onsite camping update

Limited tickets to the best spot in the festival, Stolen Rum’s ‘Club Stolen’, are still available – and you don’t want to snooze on this one. Club Stolen provides an amazing, uninterrupted view of the main stage, plus access to Stolen Rum’s resident Rum Runners mixing cocktails to perfection.

Although R&V increased onsite camping capacity by 150%, Punters will also want to move quickly if they’re keen to camp onsite with organisers saying there are only limited spots still available, while the brand new Tepee Village has quickly become a favoured option for campers.

Big thanks to Rhythm and Vines’ 2011 broadcast partners U and ZM, and proud supporters MTV.

In other exciting news, Rhythm & Vines has taken its VIP experience up a notch this year, welcoming Stolen Rum’s ‘Club Stolen’ – THE hottest ticket this summer. Giving festival goers everything they need in one place, Club Stolen is the very best place to get an amazing, uninterrupted view of the main stage. “We’re really excited to be able to offer so many new things at Rhythm and Vines. Single day tickets are something people have been asking for, so we’re happy to be able to do this again this year.” says R&V founder and program director Hamish Pinkham.

“Plus the Tepee Village means you can camp onsite without the hassles that come with camping and as for Club Stolen, there’s no place you’d rather be at R&V!”
