Internationally known amongst DJs & selectors around the world for diverse remixes and deep digging selections at DJ shows, JSTAR moves in ever increasing musical circles Musically influenced by a London upbringing through the eras of acid house, rave and West London sound of funk, rare groove, soul and all things heavily Jamaican basswise, these elements are ever present in his remix work Experiences as an intern at Columbia, Epic, Sony and Zomba, followed by a production/live stint at Warner Music bought many more musical influences aswell as face to face time with many of the artists he had only known on wax After leaving Warner Music, the free time culiminated in personal remix/dubplates which were so demanded by other DJs that he committed limited editions to vinyl, quickly picked up by old and new school DJs alike such as Sir Norman Jay, Francois K, Grandmaster Flash, John Peel, Benji B, Oneman, Diplo, Mr Benn, Sinden and L-Vis 1990 DJ Vadim took JSTAR to remix a number of tracks, leading to further exposure and allowing for a more diverse sound; since then Mark Ronson, Ari Up, Madness, Sonny J, The Black Seeds, Sola Rosa are amongst the artists requesting JSTAR’s remixes.
Recently JSTAR sought to showcase new talent from New Zealand on his ‘Dub Zealand’ compilation curated with Dr.Cat. JSTAR also tour manages artists from Grand Master Flash to Major Lazer…
As a selector and DJ, JSTAR has graced stages as far a field as New Zealand’s Splore Festival (NZ), Glastonbury (UK), Big Chill (UK), Womad (UK), Fusion (DE), Gurtenfestival (CH), and clubs in over 20 countries from Mexico to Munich, Singapore to Slovenia, USA to UK, Scandinavia to Switzerland Whether it be a DnB, Dubstep, Moombahton, Reggae, Ska or vintage RnB event, JSTAR is at home surrounded by, and playing music.
