Frank Booker

Emerging from the shadows at the beginning of 2009, Frank Booker has seemingly come from nowhere to unleash a barrage of Disco fueled bombs on unsuspecting dancefloors worldwide.

First signed to Christopher Tubbs boutique London record label, Untracked Recordings, Frank released the ‘Brothers EP’, featuring 3 choice cuts, swiftly marked him out as an emerging artist to watch, garnering record of the week at Piccadily Records UK, and also rocketing to the top of the sales charts on Juno Records.

All of this brought the elusive Frank to the attention of one Kenji Sakajiri, the A&R man for esteemed Japanese Record label, Wonderful Noise. Kenji signed Frank for a special limited edition Mix CD.

2011 marked the release of a pair of records for Wonderful Noise ‘El Salvador’ & ‘Tell Them’, both becoming instant bestsellers & bombs for discerning disco dancefloors worldwide.

Before the end of 2011, Frank Booker will be releasing two new EPs: Firstly for New York based label, Fine Art Recordings, with a limited edition 10” vinyl single. A second EP will follow shortly after for cult European label, Sleazy Beats Recordings, again a vinyl only release.

His records have been supported by scene heavyweights such as Gilles Peterson, Ashley Beedle, Todd Terje, Mark E, Kon & Amir (BBE), Tim Sweeney (Beats in Space / DFA), The Revenge, Ron Basejam and DJ Day amongst others.

Frank is also the co-host of the highly acclaimed ‘Hit It & Quit It’ radio show alongside Recloose. Hosted every Monday night on George FM (Auckland, New Zealand), and consistently leading in ratings for the station, the show has become one of the station’s most popular.

In the middle of 2011, Hit It & Quit It launched their very first compilation: ‘The Hit It & Quit It Radio Revue Volume 1’, featuring new & exclusive music from a wide & varied array of artists including: Grooveman Spot (Jazzy Sport, Japan), Lord Echo, Chico Mann (Wax Poetics), Mark de Clive Lowe (Tru Thoughts), James Pants (Stones Throw) and many others.

The celebrate the release, Serato Pressings gave Hit It & Quit It the rare & unique opportunity to release their very own, limited edition Serato Pressing. This is the first time such an honour has been bestowed on a NZ based music crew, and had them joinng the likes of J Dilla, A-Trak, Diplo, and labels such as Ninja Tune, BBE, Stones Throw in the prestigious series.

Hit It & Quit It also co-host a regular clubnight based on the radio show. Thus far, ‘The Hit It & Quit It Revue’ has featured guest performances from the likes of Moodymann, Dam Funk, Tiger & Woods, DJ Day, Kid Sublime, Kon, Trus’me, as well as many local legends such as Manuel Bundy, Julien Dyne, Lord Echo and many others.

The revue also had the privilege of performing at the closing party of the 2010 Sydney Arts Festival.

As a DJ, Frank’s music spans a wide array of quality Black dance music: From deepest Disco, to 80′s boogie and quality modern house, as well as some super special re-edits (Shhhh!) all put together with a focus firmly on the dancers. Keep on!
