Matt Gibb has been spinning D+B for over 11 years now as ‘Format’, since his first gig in Christchurch’s ‘Base’ club in December 2000.
Regular gigs in Dunedin saw him sharpen his skills and play support for some of the country’s finest Drum and Bass acts such as Bulletproof, Concord Dawn and The Upbeats and more at one of NZ’s premier bass music clubs, ‘Bath St’.
Making the move up to Auckland, Matt maintained his love for bass and breakbeats and took up the role of hosting 95bfm’s Saturday night Drum and Bass show ‘The Next Level’, alternating week for week with the internationally acclaimed State of Mind.
Matt’s day job is now the role of Producer for the live daily television show ‘U live’ on the TVNZ digital channel U, a role which sees him working daily with artists from across the spectrum of the local and international music scene.
When Format puts needle to record, he selects music with passion and attention to detail, and loves nothing more than creating a vibe on a packed dancefloor.
With the focus being on playing what each individual crowd wants to hear, be it dark and dirty dancefloor filling stompers, or summer-tinged liquid rollers – there’s a time and place for all styles within the Drum and Bass genre in a Format set.
