Faster Than Light
James McCombe, the man behind Faster Than Light, is New Zealand’s next great dubstep superhero. Based in Auckland, Faster Than Light (FTL), has been sculpting a set of outrageously epic, supernaturally spacious and melodic tunes in his secret hideaway, including the beautifully well crafted single ‘Deep Space’ and bass heavy energizer ‘Super Nova’. Starting his producing career in house music, James found a good level of success. However, the pull and energy of dubstep was far too much much for him to resist and by fusing a love for epic movie film scores and an ear for astounding melodies, Faster Than Light was born. Building an impressive catalouge of originals and remixes, FTL showcased these bass heavy songs on 2011′s monster Easter Weekender tour, mixing it with industry heavyweights Nero, prince of dubstep Skrillex and Never Say Die’s Skism, earning the praise of the artists themselves and masses of new fans up and down the country.
What will his next move be? Well he has been very busy since, writing more than 14 new unreleased tracks, supporting acts like Flux Pavilion and Dodge and Fuski, garnering interest from some well known names in the scene for an upcoming album, and sorting out a nationwide tour to reach an even bigger audience. The star of Faster Than Light is burning bright and on its way upwards into the heavens that influences the music itself so much. But to tide his fans over till the album release and help the wait, FTL is releasing all his pre Easter Weekender songs for FREE! All originals and remixes will be made available, including his massive remix of ‘The Island” by Pendulum.
This EP is a first step for this growing artist, but an important step. And a step that arguably hasn’t been taken so emphatically well for a very long time. Keep your ears out for it, real soon..
