David Dallas
Kiwi hip-hop artist David Dallas was formerly known as Con Psy and as one-half of the award winning local hip-hop group Frontline. David Dallas is considered “the next big thing”.
Dallas first appeared on the New Zealand music scene after label mate P-Money spotted the prodigious talents of the rising star. It was this recognition that led to Dallas’ searing verse on Scribe’s “Not Many – The Remix”. The song heralded the arrival of an untapped rap talent that New Zealand hip-hop was quick to make room for.
Eight years on from that 16 bar introduction, David Dallas has amassed an impressive history of ticked boxes. Releasing a critically lauded debut album? Check. New Zealand music award for the Best Hip Hop Album? Check. Record deal with prestigious American record label? Check. Surgically precise wordplay few can approach? Check.
Most recently David Dallas has celebrated the release of his sophomore album The Rose Tint. The album, which has been made available for free download from www.daviddallas.net, has already clocked up an impressive 20,000 full downloads in less than 3 weeks of release. The Rose Tint features the singles “Till Tomorrow”, “Sideline” featuring Che Fu and the current radio single “Caught In A Daze” featuring American MC Freddie Gibbs.
David, now based in New York recently inked a deal with U.S hip-hop tastemaker label Duck Down Music. Since relocating to the U.S last year he has been impressing stateside audiences and industry folk alike, he recently won an MTV U.S online poll, with American audiences crowning him their MTV Iggy Artist Of The Week. His music video for the new song “Big Time” has been added to MTV across the U.S – a huge break for any new artist.
His talent has also been recognised on some of the worlds most influential hp-hop sites including Nah Right, 2dopeboyz, XXL, The Source and 50 cent’s own This Is 50 amongst others. His video for “Big Time” got a shout out from Kanye West on his personal blog. With the simultaneous release date across the globe for The Rose Tint David Dallas is flying the New Zealand flag high as he continues to collaborate and compete with some of the biggest names in American hip-hop.
