Chaos In The CBD

Hailing from Devonport on Auckland’s North Shore, Ben and Louis Helliker-Hales are still fresh faces in the dance scene. Over the past year or so however the brothers have been making massive waves, both internationally, and in their home country of New Zealand.

Their roller coaster ride started with a host of their free releases quickly gaining momentous hype on the blogosphere. Soon after this the boys found themselves garnering support from some of their biggest overseas influences and idols. Industry heavy hitters like Edu K, Bart B More, Teki Latex, French Fries, Wax Motif, Tom Piper, Spoek Mathambo began playing and championing original Chaos In The CBD productions.

Their first track ‘Tesh & Maccas’ earned worldwide acclaim, and was even recently featured in the BBC Essential Mix of Holland’s proclaimed king of Dirty Dutch house, Chuckie. Many DJ’s spend their whole career attempting to get their material into one of Radio 1’s prestigious essential mixes, to no avail. For the boys to have one of their tracks feature so early in their career is a great honour and indication of their potential.

Aside from their original productions they have also produced remixes for such artists as Monkey Safari, Blaze Tripp, French Fries, Crystal Fighters, Myd and Donovan. Some of these tracks have since seen official releases globally, on labels such as Bakehaus, What What Records and YounGunz.

The Chaos boys are not afraid to cross genre boundaries either. They are in their element spinning and producing everything from Tech House to UK Funky, the dance music communities’ latest obsession. As a result of tremendous support from the local electronic music community they have had the opportunity to prove their DJ talent by supporting some huge names that have recently toured New Zealand. To date they have had the opportunity to play alongside superstars such as Mowgli, Hijack, Solo, Renaissance Man, Yolanda Be Cool and Noob.

With more original releases in the pipeline and a calendar jam-packed with gigs, the noise the Helliker-Hales brothers are generating is an undeniable testament to their talent and to the uniqueness of their flavour of dance music.

Chaotic doesn’t even begin to describe the future standing before them.
